Ohio State Football: Schedule will have Buckeyes in good spot for CFP
The schedule we’ve awaited has been released for the Ohio State football team as it happens to be one that favors the Buckeyes and contains a few surprises.
At long last the Big Ten released its revised football schedule for the fall. The Ohio State football team opens things up for the conference on Thursday, September 3rd against Illinois in Champaign.
The Buckeyes follow with Rutgers before heading to the house of horrors in West Lafayette.
The conference elected to keep the same nine already scheduled opponents and just add an additional crossover game to fill the ten game slate. Ohio State added an away game at Purdue and saw its biggest games against Michigan and Penn State moved.
The Game will take place in Columbus on October 24th in what will hopefully have fans in the stands. It’s a bit confusing why Ohio State-Michigan was only moved forward a month to the middle of the season.

Ending the regular season with scarlet and gray clashing with maize and blue has been a tradition for over 100 years. If The Game had to get moved, why not make it count and play it right away in September and add to the hype and magnitude.
Nonetheless, the Buckeyes and Wolverines will collide outside of November for the first time since 1933. However, in 1942 Ohio State and Michigan played on November 21st which was the last time The Game did not conclude the regular season. The Buckeyes went on to win the National Championship (AP) that year.
Justin Fields should not have too much of a problem leading his Buckeyes to a 6-0 record before The Game as the schedule seems oddly backloaded. The second half of the season features premier matchups against Michigan, at Penn State and home against Iowa for Senior Day on November 21st.
The schedule includes room for flexibility as each team receives a pair of bye weeks as well as a uniform open date after Thanksgiving — November 28th.
The Big Ten Championship is slated for December 5th, however, it can be played the following week, December 12th, or as late as the 19th if necessary. The final CFP rankings will be released Sunday, December 20th which is just 11 days ahead of the semifinals.
