So often offensive linemen aren’t noticed as often as skill position players by fans. Their teammates appreciate them though and two of the big guys were named captains for the 2020 season.

Let’s begin with one who earned numerous honors last year.

Wyatt Davis: In his first full season as a starter Davis was named a first team All-American by the Associated Press, CBS Sports and The Sporting news. He along with the next player I’m about to mention were instrumental in opening holes for J.K. Dobbins to rush for 2,000 yards last season.

Great things are expected for the guard this season, which will probably be his last wearing Scarlet and Gray because he is expected to be a high NFL draft pick next year.

Josh Myers: Like Davis, Myers was a highly rated offensive lineman in the 2017 Ohio State recruiting class but it took time to earn a starting spot. He was an outstanding tackle in high school who was projected to play guard but was moved to center.

The hard work he put in learning to play a new position paid off and he was named 2nd team All-Big Ten after his performance last season. Don’t be surprised if he is a strong contender for the Rimington Award this season as the best center in the country.

Now the skill position player who also deserves to be named a captain.

Justin Fields: It’s hard to put into words how well the Georgia transfer melded with his teammates so quickly and how well he performed on the field. There were high expectations for Fields when he joined the Ohio State football team and he exceeded them all.
