Ohio State’s Top 3 Quarterbacks of the 2010’s
By Zane Harris
Dwayne Haskins may have had the best season from a quarterback we have ever seen in the 2018-2019 season. He broke the record for both single-season passing yards and single-season passing touchdowns. With this being his first year as a starter after spending the 2017-2018 season behind J.T. Barrett and only playing in eight games and throwing 57 passes on the year, it basically made the 2018-2019 season his first year.
In this historic and remarkable season, Haskins threw 533 passes and completed 373 of them for a pass completion percentage of 70%. His 373 completions totaled him 4831 yards and 50 touchdowns. Doing the math this means that he averaged around 345 yards and 3.5 touchdowns a game. To top this off, he only threw eight interceptions the entire season. These remarkable numbers in college were enough to make him widely touted as the best quarterback in his draft class.
Despite the slow start he has had with the Washington Redskins, it is likely that new coach Ron Rivera will give him more of a chance to succeed and prove himself as the starter than Washington’s previous regime.
While he is capable of making something out of nothing, this will be a tall task even from a quarterback of Haskin’s level.
Going back to his college career, Haskins finished third in the Heisman race behind both Kyler Murray and Tua Tagovailoa. However, he did carry the Buckeyes to a victory against the Washington Huskies in the Rose Bowl with a final score of 28-23 in Urban Meyer’s final game as Ohio State’s head coach.
