Ohio State Football: Return to the WHAC a chance to gain an edge
After nearly three months of being ‘on hold’, the Ohio State football team has returned to the practice facility preparing for a run at a national championship in 2020.
Although the workouts will have a different feel, the opportunity for the Ohio State football team to get back into shape is not something many players will miss out on if they can help it. From images posted to Eleven Warriors, there looked to be a solid turn-out as players entered in staggered time slots.
For head coach Ryan Day, this is an opportunity to see which players have been staying in shape and staying prepared for a season and which ones will need to work hard to get back into football shape.
The Ohio State University announced their academic plans for the fall on Wednesday, which is a good sign that the football team won’t face obstacles off the field. If the team would have been forced to deal with not being allowed on campus, coach Day would have a plethora of issues while trying to prepare his team to win a championship.
Now that a solid portion of the team is back at the Woody Hayes Athletic Center, coach Day will likely treat the next few months as he did last summer, simply with more health safety precautions in place.
Among the players seen returning to the WHAC were Zach Harrison, who will be a key player for the Buckeyes in 2020. With the loss of Chase Young on the defensive line, Harrison will benefit from a couple of months of practice, which is something that is not available to every team in college football just yet.
As many states are still under stay-at-home orders, many other college football facilities around the country remain closed. With the benefit of at least an extra week or two, Ohio State should be in a prime position to return to the College Football Playoff in 2020.
