Ryan Day capped off a great year as head coach of the Ohio State football team with an excellent draft class, and Urban Meyer has to love that.

The Ohio State football team was outstanding during the 2019 season under first year head coach Ryan Day and 10 players were rewarded by hearing their names called during the NFL Draft. Urban Meyer had to love that as nine were his recruits adding to an already impressive total.

The two coaches were a terrific combo, Urban brought talented players to Columbus and Ryan kept them on the right track. Let’s look at the 10 players about to earn a nice payday.

First Round:  DE Chase Young, Washington Redskins (2), CB Jeff Okudah, Detroit Lions (3) and CB Damon Arnette, Las Vegas Raiders (19)

As freshmen you could see why Young and Okudah were five-star recruits as they performed well in limited action. They improved significantly in 2018 and last year each was the top player in the country at his position.

Now for Arnette. Who saw this coming? Don’t you think the former three-star recruit is glad he came back to Ohio State for a fifth year?

The corner certainly made a ton of money by doing so and I think he should buy a nice present for coach Jeff Hafley with some of it.

Second Round:  RB J. K. Dobbins, Baltimore Ravens (55)

How can a guy who rushed for 2,003 yards and 21 touchdowns to bring his three-year total to 4,459 and 38 drop to the 55th pick. Especially when you add in 71 receptions for 645 yards and 5 scores out of the backfield.

Oh well, he’s going to a good team so it may end up being the best thing for him.

Third Round:  DT Davon Hamilton, Jacksonville Jaguars (73), OG Jonah Jackson, Detroit Lions (75) and LB Malik Harrison, Baltimore Ravens (98)

Hamilton is the perfect example of a guy who just kept on working and improving.  Jackson was an unbelievable performer in the interior as a grad transfer last year. Harrison is a big, athletic linebacker who has the potential to be a star at the next level.

Now for Day 3 picks.

Sixth Round:  S Jordan Fuller, LA Rams (199)

I think Fuller is an undervalued safety who will surprise people.

Seventh Round:  K.J. Hill, LA Chargers (220), Jashon Cornell, Detroit Lions (235)

More from Ohio State Football

Unbelievable K.J. would drop this low in the draft. More on him later

I’m glad to see Jashon get drafted, he was a versatile lineman for the Buckeyes who could play the three technique tackle spot at a high level or on the edge when needed. Coach Johnson is going to miss this guy.

With nine of these players being Urban Meyer’s recruits, it brings the number of players the former Buckeye head coach has had chosen in the NFL Draft to 42 from 2016. I included those players in the 2012 recruiting class who committed when Jim Tressel or Luke Fickell was the head coach because Urban had to sign off on each one.

Next. K.J. Hill completely disrespected. dark

You have to give credit to both coaches for having another terrific Ohio State draft class. Urban brought most of the players in and Ryan kept the train rolling.
