Ohio State Football: Buckeyes haven’t lost ‘The Game’ in over 3,000 days
By Alex Austin
Welcome to some good news this Friday. In case you forgot amid your daily lives, Ohio State football teams have dominated Michigan for many years. It has been over 3,000 days since the Buckeyes lost to the Wolverines.
It has been 3,058 days to be exact. It has been close to a decade since an Ohio State football team lost to the Michigan Wolverines and that was in a transition year for the Buckeyes.
Since that loss, Ohio State has had won 99 games. Michigan has won 68. The Buckeyes have won four Big Ten titles with the Wolverines still looking for their first appearance in the Championship Game.
Recently, the recruiting efforts of each program were reviewed with Ohio State dominating Michigan every year except one. Since recruiting efforts translate directly to success on the field, it is not a reach to assume that this dominance will continue this year and well beyond.
For many teams, a scandal and transition period turn into prolonged droughts of poor on the field performances, head coaching carousels and a struggle to get back to where the program once was. Programs such as USC, Texas and Miami were all perennial powers that have faded into just looking for conference success again.
Ohio State was able to land one of the greatest coaches in the game after a scandal. Urban Meyer built one of the most successful programs in college football since that year and Ryan Day picked up where he left off.
As the Buckeyes and Wolverines continue to trend in opposite directions it becomes harder and harder for the Wolverines to compete on the field, even dropping below the Penn State Nittany Lions in most estimations. Ohio State continues to get richer with a National Championship, Big Ten Titles and multiple trips to the playoff.
If the Ohio State Buckeyes continue to distance themselves from the Michigan Wolverines, the overall record between the two schools will become an even more interesting situation. Until that changes, Buckeye fans will continue to enjoy the 3,000+ days of complete domination.
