Ohio State Football: Breaking down the depth chart, offensive line
Waiting in the wings: Luke Wypler, Grant Toutant, Josh Fryar, Jakob James,
Trey Leroux
This was a massive haul of offensive lineman for the 2020 recruiting class. The Buckeyes took six offensive linemen in this class to start breeding young blood into Greg Studrawa’s offensive line room. Luke Wypler is the big name of this bunch coming in as the next big center prospect for a school that is tradition rich at that position. The No. 2 rated center in the country, Wypler may get reps early in his career in a backup role.
Grant Toutant plays tackle and certainty has the frame for it standing at six-feet-seven-inches tall and 320 pounds. Josh Fryar and Jakob James both come in listed as guards and will be developmental projects as three-star recruits.
Down the pipeline: Ben Christman, Donovan Jackson
The Buckeyes are already in great shape when it comes to offensive lineman in the 2021 class. With the big haul of lineman in the 2020 class, the need at offensive line is not as great so Ryan Day and company can be picky when it comes to who they bring in.
In Ben Christman and Donovan Jackson, the Buckeyes have two top 60 national recruits and Jackson is rated as the No.1 offensive guard recruit in the country. Christman, the Revere High School in Richfield, Ohio prospect, is rated as the No. 56 best player in this 2021 class and is the No. 2 overall player in the state of Ohio.
This is a great start to the class as the Buckeyes will look for at least two more linemen to fill this recruiting cycle out. Most notable on that list is offensive tackle Rocco Spindler of Clarkston, Michigan. The No. 40 overall prospect in the 2021 class was offered by Ohio State back in November and the Buckeyes are high on his list of potential schools.
There you have it. There is a position breakdown on the offensive line. It should be fun watching this unit dominate again next year.
