Ohio State Football: 5 predictions for Fiesta Bowl
Chase Young bounces back
Well Chase Young’s numbers the past two games have been not spectacular. Six total tackles is all he has accounted for over those contests. However his impact was most certainly felt in both games. Young was double and triple teamed on just about every passing down so his pressure was still felt on every play.
Clemson’s offensive tackle in charge of blocking Young is Jackson Carman, the former five-star recruit from Fairfield, Ohio. He was one player that Ohio State really wanted but he chose to go down south versus staying in his home state.
Carman’s play on the field this season has been up and down to say the least. And he most certainly has not seen anyone close to the talent that Chase Young possesses. Carman said this about having to go up against Young, via The Clemson Insider:
"“We just have to play within our scheme and not get outside of what we do. From an individual standpoint, basically if you just go at him and throw a super hard punch at him, he’s gonna take your hands and you’re gone, so you gotta sit back and be patient with him, let him come to you, and then just try to take up as much space as possible when he gets to you.”"
Clemson is absolutely going to have to give Carman help blocking Young. But I don’t think it will be enough as Young has been gearing up for this game his entire career.
The All-American defensive end is going to show up in the biggest game of his life: Two sacks, two tackles for loss, and a forced fumble. Look for his impact to be felt early as Clemson will have to adjust its blocking scheme to slow Young down.
