The Ohio State football team just took a major body blow as star DE and Heisman candidate Chase Young has been suspended according to a report.

It was reported by Lettermen Row Chase Young has been made unavailable to play effective immediately. As of now, Young will miss the Maryland game but no word as of yet if the suspension will span past Saturday.

The university has commented on the matter and is looking into the situation per Lettermen Row.

"“Ohio State’s Chase Young will not play in this Saturday’s game between the Buckeyes and the Maryland Terrapins due to a possible NCAA issue from 2018 that the Department of Athletics is looking into,” a school statement said."

Chase Young is a legitimate Heisman candidate, but his chances will obviously take a major hit following this news and his absence from the field.

The defensive end has been a game wrecker for the Buckeyes over his career, but this year he became a force of nature. Young has been unstoppable on the field with 13.5 sacks and five forced fumbles on the year.

Although Ohio State is one of the deepest teams in the country, losing your best player is always a major blow. It will be the next man up for the Buckeyes who are pushing toward a championship run.

Massive games with Penn State and Michigan still loom in a couple of weeks, and Young’s presence would very much be missed. He is a player you have to fully game plan and account for at all times, not just schematically block him like a normal player.

Ohio State’s defense has been one of the best in the country as they’ve only allowed 7.9 points per game and less than 250 yards per contest. Those numbers may increase by a little now that Chase Young is missing time, but the Silver Bullets are still in great shape as a unit.

This story is still developing and the details are still being confirmed. But we can only hope Chase Young’s unavailability due to an alleged NCAA violation can be resolved which would allow for his return to the gridiron for the stretch run.
