Ohio State Football: Week 10 predictions, big games on tap
#6 Florida vs. #8 Georgia (Jacksonville, Florida)
The Gators (7-1, 4-1 SEC) and Bulldogs (6-1, 3-1 SEC) are both in must-win situations for the remainder of the season if they hope to make the playoff. The Florida defense has been the catalyst in every game except in the loss to LSU Oct. 12.
The Gators will have another opportunity to show their dominance on that side of the ball, but will be tasked with playing a high-powered Bulldog offense led by Jake Fromm and D’Andre Swift.
Georgia struggled mightily on offense in the loss to South Carolina and for most on the 21-0 win against Kentucky in the pouring rain. It may be cloudy, but the sun will shine on the Bulldogs Saturday as they finally put things back together on offense and eliminate the Gators from playoff contention.
Georgia 31, Florida 23
#9 Utah at Washington
Utah (7-1, 4-1 Pac-12) is in a much different place than Washington (5-3, 2-3 Pac-12). While the Huskies are all-but out of the Pac-12 race, the Utes have a chance to prove they can win a tough road game and boost their playoff resume.
Like Florida, the Utah defense has been dominant, allowing no more than 17 points in every game but their road loss against USC in September.
The Utes may only be favored by 3, but the Huskies have struggled offensively and defensively at times. There is certainly a possibility for an upset at Husky Stadium, but on this Saturday the road team cruises to a comfortable victory and proves they are still a dark horse to make the playoff.
Utah 37, Washington 21
#7 Oregon at USC
The other Pac-12 playoff contender (Utah) slipped up against the Trojans (5-3, 4-1 Pac-12), who are in a prime position to win the South division. The Ducks (7-1, 5-0 Pac-12) will hope to avoid the slip and continue their campaign to make the playoff for the first time since losing the National Championship Game against the Buckeyes in 2014.
NFL prospect QB Justin Herbert had Oregon rolling after the loss against Auburn in the first game of the season, outscoring opponents 195-25 in five games – against Nevada, Montana, Stanford, California and Colorado. However, in two games against Washington and Washington State, the defense fell away from the 5.0 PPG average to allowing 31 and 35, respectively.
USC has been perfect at home so far this season (4-0), but face a tough Oregon team that is hoping to prove that they belong in the playoff hunt.
Like the Utes, the Ducks remain in that hunt for another week, picking up a tough road win against a tough Trojans team.
