Arizona State vs. Utah 6:00 PM ET: Rooting for Arizona State

Stop me if you’ve heard this before, but the Pac 12’s chances of putting a team in the College Football Playoffs are on life support. It seems like every year the Pac-12 beats itself up until there are no teams ranked high enough to have a shot at beating out winners of the other conferences.

This year is no different. There are only 3 teams left with one loss, and two of them play on Saturday when Arizona State visits Utah.

The reality: The only real chance the Pac-12 has of putting a team into the semifinals is by having Utah and Oregon meet in the Pac-12 championship game, each having just one loss. The winner would still have a chance at making the playoffs with an impressive win to end the season.

Ideal for the Bucks: The easiest way to knock out the Pac-12 is by having both teams (Utah and Oregon) lose before even making it to the Pac-12 championship game, but an even better scenario for Ohio State would be a good win from Arizona State on Saturday.

The logic: This game is one I will be keeping an eye on because of the common opponent between the Buckeyes and the Sun Devils. If Arizona State can beat Utah on the road, they may show the world that they are a good football team.

That will make the win over Michigan State look better which will make Ohio State’s win even more impressive, impacting our strength of schedule at the end of it all. How’s that for circular logic?

Now for a big conference game.
