Ohio State Football: Predicting second half of the season
By Alex Austin
November 9 – Maryland
Reasons for Optimism: The season is quickly unraveling for Maryland. After demolishing Syracuse 63-20 to go to 2-0 on the season, the Terrapins have proceeded to lose three out of four with their most recent result being a 40-14 thumping at the hands of the Purdue Boilermakers.
This is a team that better figure things out quickly or it could be a long day in Ohio Stadium. As is a theme with many of the opponents Ohio State plays – the Buckeyes are just too fast, physical, and talented for most teams to keep pace with over 60 minutes.
Ohio State should overwhelm Maryland and allow their backups some playing time in the fourth quarter. Throw in a bye week the week before, and this should be no problem for a rested Buckeye squad.
Reasons for Concern: Remember 2018? *Shudders*, Maryland was a play away from a huge upset against Ohio State last year. Did they find the formula to playing the Buckeyes close? If so, this could be a surprisingly close game.
Ohio State usually gets opposing teams’ best shot and I think this game will be much closer in the first half than people think. Maryland could find a few trick plays and big gains to score early, but once the Buckeyes settle down they will start to roll.
Prediction: Ohio State 45 – Maryland 17
