J.K. Dobbins and J.K. Hill are on pace to set Ohio State records. Let’s look at how the two got to the point they are mentioned among Buckeye greats.

J.K. Dobbins is attempting to become the first Ohio State back to rush for over 1,000 yards his first three years. K.J. Hill has a chance to catch more passes than anyone who has worn the Scarlet and Gray.

The two had different paths as Dobbins got off to a fast start but it took time for Hill to make his mark. Let’s look at the star running back first.

Dobbins impressed everybody from the time he stepped on campus and was expected to back up Mike Weber who had rushed for over 1,000 yards as a redshirt freshman. However, after Weber suffered an injury he was pressed into duty the first game against Indiana and rushed 29 times for 181 yards.

He broke the freshman rushing record with 1,403 yards. He backed that up last season with 1,053. This year he has 654 yards already so if he stays healthy another 1,000 yard season is a given.

Hill’s journey hasn’t been as smooth. He was redshirted his first year and had 18 catches the next. As a redshirt sophomore he made the two deep and when Parris Campbell got knicked up in the middle of the season Hill showed everybody why he was a prized recruit in the 2015 class.

In 2017, he caught 56 passes and 70 past year when he and Campbell were the best slot receiver combo in college football.

This season, Hill has 20 catches so far this season and with 164 receptions is right behind Michael Jenkins and Chris Carter. He is only 27 behind David Boston. Since Ohio State is assured of playing at least 13 games, if Hill continues to average four receptions per game the rest of the season he will be the new record holder.

I hope both J.K and J.K. continue to perform well and hit these marks. If they set new standards, there is a good chance the Buckeyes will be back in the College Football Playoff.
