Former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins finally got time at QB for the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Here is what I saw from him.

Former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins was incredible for the Buckeyes last season, throwing for 4,831 yards, 50 touchdowns, and eight interceptions, leading to him getting selected in the first round of the NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins.

Haskins finally played in his first regular season game on Sunday against the New York Giants as he came in relief for Case Keenum but he didn’t have the greatest stat line, throwing for 107 yards and three interceptions on 9-of-17 passing.

Haskins might be getting criticized today but I actually liked what I saw from him.

We all saw Haskins’ incredible arm strength while he played for Ohio State and he showed that at times on Sunday as he made a couple tough throws in some small windows. He even made a perfect throw in the endzone to tight end Jeremy Sprinkle during the second quarter, putting it up top where only Sprinkle could catch it – but it was dropped.

He also showed off that he has wheels that he can use when needed.

I knew that Haskins was never a runner but I always thought that he was quick enough to make plays with his legs when he needed to and he showed that ability on Sunday, as he carried it twice for 23 yards and even had one run go for 14 yards.

That came after all the draft experts continued to bring up his immobility in the spring.

I even saw him use that mobility to get out of the pocket and make a throw while on the run, which having the ability to extend plays can be huge for a quarterback with a big arm like Haskins.

He did, however, have those three interceptions which two of them were because he trusted his strong arm a little too much, but we have seen guys like Brett Favre and Andrew Luck do that too in their careers. Guys with big arms know that they can make great throws so sometimes they take risks.

His other interception hit off the pads of his receiver and should have been caught so I do not blame him for that.

I honestly think that Haskins did not look bad. He had several throws that should have been caught and he was playing with guys he has never really played with before as WUSA9’s Darren Haynes reported that Haskins had mostly been running scout team in practice.

He was also missing his best receiver and his Ohio State buddy in Terry McLaurin who has had an awesome rookie season so far, catching 16 passes for 257 yards and three touchdowns in three games, but he was out with a hamstring injury on Sunday.

Why this Buckeye team is elite. dark. Next

Haskins was thrown into a game that he did not know he would play in, played with guys he has never really played with before and was missing his No. 1 receiver. He was not set up to succeed on Sunday but he still showed glimpses of what he can do and should have had better stats if his receivers would have made some more catches for him.

I believe Haskins will be great in the NFL.
