Ohio State Football: Give me J.K. Dobbins over Jonathan Taylor

Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor gets a lot of attention but I would rather have Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins.

Jonathan Taylor has received a lot of attention nationally as it seems like he has been in all the Heisman rankings – even before the season began – but I think based on this season I would rather have Ohio State running back J.K. Dobbins.

Before I give you my arguments for Dobbins, I’ll get the arguments for Taylor out of the way. He has comparable stats to Dobbins despite playing one less game than him and has five more total touchdowns, 11 compared to Dobbins’ six.

Okay, now that I have that out of the way here is why I want Dobbins.

Taylor is averaging 6.7 yards per carry so far this season, which is good, but Dobbins is averaging 7.1 yards per carry.

More from Ohio State Football

Dobbins also has more total rushing yards on the season than Taylor – 654 compared to Taylor’s 559 – albeit he has played in one extra game but it’s not like he only has 20 more yards than him, he almost has 100 more.

This is all while Ohio State has a ton more weapons at their disposal than Wisconsin does.

The guy with the second-most rushing yards for Wisconsin this season is Nakia Watson who has 141 yards on 36 attempts. The second guy for Ohio State is Master Teague who has 326 yards on 52 attempts and then quarterback Justin Fields has 222 rushing yards on 46 attempts.

In addition to that, Ohio State has a much better passing offense that they can turn to as Justin Fields has 1,092 yards through the air for 16 touchdowns and no interceptions. Wisconsin’s Jack Coan has 803 passing yards this season for only five touchdowns and one interception.

The Buckeyes also have several really good receivers they can turn to as Binjimen Victor, Chris Olave and K.J. Hill all have over 200 receiving yards on the season while Wisconsin only has one guy with 200-plus receiving yards in Quintez Cephus.

Dobbins has several guys taking reps from him because the amount of talent Ohio State has while Taylor is the center of Wisconsin’s offense.

Next. Stop ranking teams based on last year’s success. dark

I think Taylor is an excellent back and should get all the recognition he is getting but I think Dobbins should get recognized more and I would rather have him in my backfield than Taylor. I only wonder what Dobbins’ stats would look like if he was in the type of position that Taylor is in as the centerpiece of a team’s offense.
