Ohio State Football: Picking against the spread Week 5

There are some interesting games involving Top 10 teams this week and one that makes at least one Ohio State fan a little nervous.

The featured game of the week involving a Top 10 team is Ohio State at Nebraska but there are other interesting games on tap.

I’m back picking games involving Top 10 games after taking a break. Not so sure why I did because I was 5-3 after Week 1.

That’s okay, this time of year is when the fun really begins anyway. Most teams have their cupcake schedules out of the way and conference action heats up.

Well, here we go with Week 5 picks.

Clemson (1) by 28 over North Carolina:  The Clemson Tigers got off to a bit of a rough start this season but I thought that was because they were looking ahead to the Week 3 game against the Syracuse Orange. After that game was behind them they defeated the Charlotte 49ers 52-0 but I don’t think this game will be as easy.

Mack Brown has his team battling in every game. North Carolina won their first two games by a total of 7 points and lost the last two by 9. I’ll take the Tar Heels and the points.

Alabama (2) by 39 over Mississippi:  Mississippi isn’t very good but man that’s a big spread. I’ll take the Rebels and the points.

Ohio State (5) by 17.5 over Nebraska:  As a Buckeye fan I am a little nervous about this game. Lincoln is a tough place to play during the day and this is the featured game at night and Cornhusker fans will be partying all day. Think that stadium won’t be loud.

My concerns are communication issues with Justin Fields and the rebuilt offensive line early in the game. They have performed well the first four games but have yet to play in this environment. I see the Buckeyes winning but not covering.

Oklahoma (6) by 27.5 over Texas Tech:  The Oklahoma offense has been one of the best in the country so far and I think it keeps rolling. I’ll take the Sooners and lay the points.

Auburn (7) by 10 over Mississippi State:  I am beginning to believe in this Auburn team. I pick the Tigers to cover.

Wisconsin (8) by 25 over Northwestern:  Wisconsin has been playing great and Northwestern hasn’t so this should be an easy pick right? Nope.

I think Pat Fitzgerald will have his team ready to give the Badgers a fight so I’ll take the Wildcats and the points.

Notre Dame (10) by 11 over Virginia (18):  I can’t even make up my mind who wins this game so I have to take Virginia and the points.

There are my picks for week 5 games involving Top 10 teams. I hope I was correct taking the points in so many games.
