Ohio State Football: Big keys for Buckeyes to leave Lincoln with a win
For the Ohio State Buckeyes to defeat the Nebraska Cornhuskers on their home turf there are certain things they must do.
First and foremost quarterback Justin Fields and the re-built Ohio State offensive line will have to keep their composure. They have performed well so far this season but haven’t played in a game with 90,000 screaming fans that don’t want you to play well.
And the whole country will be watching.
Fields and the line have to communicate with each other well to avoid false starts and negative plays. The quarterback, running backs and receivers will also have to get on the same page despite the noise.
Next, the Buckeyes must pound the rock. Nothing takes the wind out of a pumped up home team, and the crowd, like running the ball down their throats.

This will sound like coach speak, and it is, but don’t turn the ball over on the road, and play solid on special teams. Turnovers, a shanked punt or a missed field goal can change momentum.
On defense Ohio State has to limit big plays from quarterback Adrian Martinez and his outstanding skill position players. Chunk plays get the fans rolling and the home team feeds off of it.
That hasn’t been a problem for the Buckeyes so far this season. But the Silver Bullets will face more talented players on the edge, at running back and especially at quarterback than they have so far.
Hopefully the linebackers and defensive backs will at least contain the playmakers and make the Nebraska offense work to get down the field.
There are the keys to the Buckeyes leaving Lincoln with a win. It may sound boring but if Ohio State defeats Nebraska to go to 5-0 I don’t think Ryan Day would care.
