Ohio State Football: A look back at dominating win over Miami
By Ian O’Brien
The Ohio State Buckeyes have finished non conference play and Saturday they scored the most points against a smaller school since they played FAMU in 2013.
After a nice win against the Indiana Hoosiers, the Ohio State Buckeyes would head back to the Horseshoe for their final non conference game against the Miami (OH) Redhawks. The game started out slow for Buckeyes as Redhawks linebacker Myles Reid stripped Justin Fields causing the ball to roll to the back of the endzone for a safety.
The Buckeyes would not let that one little mistake hurt them as J.K. Dobbins would take it in from 26 yards making it 7-5 Buckeyes. Dobbins was hoping to get to the 3,000 mark, but that will have to wait as he only rushed for 52 yards on eight carries and a touchdown.
The other running back who scored was Steele Chambers who had a two yard touchdown when the Buckeyes were leading big.
That lead would have not been there if it wasn’t for an impressive second quarter by quarterback Justin Fields who had a total of six touchdowns, making up for the early mistake. Fields first passing touchdown was a 53 yard reception to wide receiver / H-back K.J. Hill.
Fields would then find Chris Olave twice in the quarter, and had a nice touchdown pass to wide receiver Binjimen Victor in the back of the endzone.
Fields’ two rushing touchdowns were from six and seven yards out. The QB finished 14/21, 223 yards passing while rushing for 36 yards on nine carries.
Backup quarterbacks Chris Chugunov and Gunnar Hoak saw action too. Chugunov found wide receiver Garrett Wilson who made a spectacular catch over Redhawks defensive back Ja’Don Rucker-Furlow for a 38 yard touchdown. His next touchdown pass was seven yards out to running back Marcus Crowley.

Chugunov finished 6/7 86 yards passing and two touchdowns. Gunnar Hoak was 2/2 for 65 yards. One was a 61 yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jameson Williams.
Players on the defensive side of the ball had a big impact early on. Cornerback Jeffery Okudah picked off Redhawks quarterback Brett Gabbert and other players made big plays as well.
Once again defensive end Chase Young was a beast and had two strip sacks. Linebacker Malik Harrison had three solo tackles, Dallas Gant had one and a half sacks along with linebacker Baron Browning who had a sack on his end.
Miami QB Brett Gabbert was pulled during the second quarter of the game and was replaced by Jack Williamson. Gabbert finished 5-15, 48 yards passing and an interception. Williamson lost two fumbles, and was 2/5 with 12 yards passing.
Ohio State (4-0) will head to Memorial Stadium to take on Nebraska (3-1) along with the College GameDay crew. Kickoff is 7:30pm EST on ABC.
