The Buckeyes are riding into week three on a high note after shutting out Cincinnati last week. Now it’s time to open up Big Ten play with Indiana

Ohio State football is back and after two games it looks like this team hasn’t missed a beat with Ryan Day calling the shots. First a 45-21 win over FAU and in week 2 the defense showed some massive improvements by shutting out a talented Cincinnati team that was on the brink of being ranked.

The Buckeyes open up their Big Ten schedule in week three with a battle against the Indiana Hoosiers. Here are the three reasons that Scarlet and Gray will prevail for a third straight week.

1. Indiana gave up nearly 300 passing yards against Ball State

Indiana ranked No. 78 in the country in pass defense last season giving up about 241 yards per game through the air. That won’t cut it this week, and while that was last season it didn’t seem to get any better in week one as the Hoosiers gave up almost 300 passing yards to a bottom of the line MAC team in Ball State.

The Indiana defense will just have way too much trouble containing the five-star athletes that are all over the field for Ohio State. If the Buckeyes can get some one-on-one matchups on the outside, look for players like K.J HIll, Binjimin Victor and Chirs Olave to catch some long passes from Justin Fields

2. Indiana won’t have anyone to block Chase Young

More from Ohio State Football

Historically speaking, the Indiana football program hasn’t been known for having great offensive lineman. That shouldn’t change this year and if the Hoosier don’t have a great offensive line you might as well just say goodnight with Chase Young coming off the edge.

Obtaining 1.5 sacks a game against Cincinnati, Chase Young is going to create a lot of problems for Big Ten offensive lines and it starts with the Indiana Hoosiers. Even if Young doesn’t put up a ton of stats, he will almost certainly cause havoc in the background for most of the game against Indiana.

3. The defense is now capable of stopping opponents.

Now it might be exaggerating a little if we say that Ohio State couldn’t stop opponents last season. Obviously the defense stopped people at times but just not in the key moments.

This year however, I think that a shutout win over Cincinnati is starting to prove that the change in coaching personnel last season as well as just the overall experience that returned to the Buckeyes definitely helped their cause.

Chase Young leads the defensive line and when you have such a dominant force like him it opens up opportunities for others a along the line to wreak some havoc as well. The linebacker trio of Peter Werner, Tuf Borland and Malik Harrison has done very well for itself as well.

Predictions for Buckeyes vs. Hoosiers. dark. Next

Overall, this is an Ohio State team that should be a match up nightmare for Indiana on almost all fronts so the Buckeyes should have no problem getting to 3-0 for the season.
