Q: After seeing LSU, how legit are they?

LSU looked extremely impressive last Saturday night in Austin. Everyone expected a defensive battle especially with all the DBU talk all week, but instead we got fireworks.

Joe Burrow, former Buckeye and current Tigers QB, played sensational. In my opinion, he is among the leading Heisman contenders. We’ll get to his ranking in just a moment.

After seeing their dominating performance and units step up big when they were needed the most gave me clear indication LSU is the second best team in the SEC in 2019, sorry Georgia. I haven’t been impressed by the Bulldogs in big spots under Kirby Smart, so until they can prove themselves otherwise I’m not buying the SEC facade.

However, the Tigers showdown in Tuscaloosa will have a 2010 feel to it and the winner gains a huge advantage in the West, the SEC as a whole and practically solidifies a playoff spot.

Regardless, LSU is now a major threat to spoil the College Football Playoff party as they are starting to build a strong case even with an Alabama loss. Having a 1-loss LSU team would be a nightmare scenario for the Big Ten, Big 12 and Pac-12 as they would essentially be fighting for one spot.

Based on strength of conference the spot should go to the Big Ten representative, but there is no simple logic to the committee’s method of thinking so only time will tell. Nevertheless, I’m sure this thought has been running rampantly through the heads of many since the game in Austin ended last Saturday night.
