What Buckeye Fans Need to Know

There is a scary and unfortunate reality for Ohio State fans; the Buckeyes don’t necessarily control their own destiny. Even if the Buckeyes go undefeated, I fear that if Georgia and LSU get through the season with a couple of marquee wins and only one or two losses, they could possibly sneak into the playoff over Ohio State.

More from Ohio State Football

Granted, it would be very hard to deny the Buckeyes a shot at the playoff if they are undefeated. I just want everyone to remember last year’s final playoff rankings to end the season.

Despite only having one loss and winning a conference championship, Ohio State was placed behind Georgia who had two losses and did not win a conference championship. It is entirely possible that the perception of the SEC alone could put LSU or Georgia ahead of Ohio State at any given time throughout the season.

The Buckeyes have a tough road ahead of them and an opportunity to win big games to improve their resume. But will it be enough to unseat a top-tier SEC team? Only time will tell.

Heisman Watch

We close with just a very brief look at what I believe is the legitimate Heisman race after week one, in no particular order:

  • Justin Fields- OSU
  • Jalen Hurts- OU
  • Travis Etienne- Clemson
  • Tua Tagovailoa- Bama
  • Chubba Hubbard- Oklahoma State
  • Jerry Jeudy- Bama

That’s the situation heading into week two. Things could change after this week’s games, but that’s the beauty of college football. You never know what to expect.
