Ohio State Football: Jeremy Ruckert could be special
There was a tight end sighting in Columbus today. Sophomore Jeremy Ruckert shined and may soon become a star for the Buckeyes.
It was thought Ohio State head coach Ryan Day would utilize the tight ends more often this season and Jeremy Ruckert was a star in the season opener.
There was a lot of word coming out of spring and fall camp leading up to the season that coach Day would begin to use his tight ends more often. This could change as time goes on but it worked well today.
Urban Meyer utilized Nick Vannett and Jeff Heuerman early in his tenor, but strayed away from using tight ends as his time in Columbus moved on.

Either way, that word was definitely true, at least in the first game as Jeremy Ruckert had himself a fantastic day from the tight end position, catching the ball 4 times for 38 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Ruckert was a four-star recruit out of New York and the No. 2 ranked tight end in the 2018 recruiting class. Ohio State competed with Alabama, Georgia, Texas, LSU and plenty of other schools so this kid is elite. And he is 6’6, 230 pounds with great hands,
Ruckert has the size to be a great receiver and he definitely showed flashes against Florida Atlantic today.
Ruckert, wasn’t redshirted his first season, but he barely saw any time with Meyer at the helm, catching just one pass for 13 yards.
It seems coach Day is more willing to get Ruckert involved in the passing attack this season. Hopefully, his fantastic first half he had against Florida Atlantic will carry over to the rest of the season, and Rashod Berry, Luke Ferrell and Jake Hausman get into the action.
