The Ohio State football team has an elite 1-2 punch that has enormous potential. Justin Fields and JK Dobbins will meet those expectations in 2019.

All of the preseason hype surrounding the Ohio State backfield duo was confirmed to live up to the enormous expectations for 2019 this afternoon in Columbus. The Buckeyes got off to a fast start both offensively and defensively against the Owls that led to 28 points in the virtual blink of an eye.

Justin Fields turned an RPO into a 51 yard run less than two minutes into the game and then added three more passing scores before the offense came back to earth. Over the course of the game, Fields was able to showcase all facets of his game.

His arm strength, electic speed while evading defenders and vision with the ability to read the defense in the single and double option RPOs was obvious. Fields was extremely effective and impressive as he accounted for five touchdowns in his debut.

The second part of the literal 1-2 punch for the Ohio State offense is JK Dobbins. The RB out muscled the FAU defense all afternoon and fought hard for the tough extra yards. Though his stats (91 yards, TD) may not appear to be as stellar as we’re used to, it was evident the growth and maturation that has taken place during his time with the program.

As the year progresses and the players become more accustomed to the offense, Fields and Dobbins will become an unstoppable tandem. The two will leave opposing defenses in a constant “pick your poison” debate having to account for both sets of legs and Fields’ arm.

Dobbins has already eclipsed the 1,000 yard mark in each of his first two seasons. Expect him to do so easily again in 2019, likely around the 1,500 yard mark.

Also look for Justin Fields to account for 40+ touchdowns and enter the Heisman conversation, though both should deserve consideration for the prestigious award.

There were a lot of positives from today’s win over Florida Atlantic. The Buckeyes will work out the kinks and emerge as a true playoff contender under Ryan Day.

This was the first step of their journey which will prove the critics wrong and show Ohio State still remains among college football’s elite.
