The Ohio State football team is ready to begin their 2019 campaign tomorrow at noon. Here is why Ryan Day is on the path for success.

Ohio State coach Ryan Day is about to officially step into a role most coaches can only dream of tomorrow as he sprints out of the tunnel leading his Buckeyes in their season opener against Florida Atlantic in The Shoe.

Coach Day was hand selected by Athletic Director Gene Smith and legendary head coach Urban Meyer to be the 24th head coach in school history. The traits that have been widely reported Meyer brags about the most when speaking, always highly, of Day are his elite character and high intelligence.

Intelligence measured not just by book or street smarts, but an extremely high football IQ and masterful game planning techniques as well as player development abilities.

Surrounding yourself with not just good, but great people is one of the biggest secrets to success, especially in a profession such as coaching. New hires on the staff Al Washington, Greg Mattison and Jeff Hafley on the defensive side of the ball, and Mike Yurcich on offense will be instrumental in building upon the recent success and culture that is the foundation of the program.

Another crucial aspect to consider is recruiting, and Day and his established staff have done a tremendous job on the trail. Most notable WR Coach Brian Hartline who has been among the top recruiters in the country according to various polls and rankings.

Finally, amidst the transition from Meyer to Day, the infrastructure of the program remained in tact. Mickey Marotti is still the Strength Coach, Mark Pantoni is still the Director of Recruiting and Ryan Stamper is overseeing player development.

Having these three men on staff allows the program to keep moving forward without many detours or changes — the program won’t be changed, just tweaked. Most importantly, it allows for past and current relationships to remain and be sustained which is huge for retaining players and recruiting.

All things considered with weighing in the aforementioned information, Ryan Day is set up for immediate success which will continue, and elevate what Meyer built over the last seven years.
