Demario McCall has been searching for a home in the Ohio State offense and has found one and the RB situation has been settled, for now.

During his time at Ohio State Demario McCall has bounced back and forth between RB and H-back so many times I wonder if he knew if he was supposed to be in the backfield or in the slot when he entered the game. Now he has settled in at a position and will back up J.K. Dobbins.

As reported by Stephen Means of Cleveland.com coach Tony Alford said McCall is the No. 2 back as of now. It was also reported Marcus Crowley is 3rd on the depth chart due to how he has progressed and the fact Master Teague is dealing with an injury at the moment.

McCall has shown flashes of how good he could be during spring games and occasionally in the fall. An injury situation hampered him some, but mostly it was the guys ahead of him at both positions he played.

Curtis Samuel was the best H-back in college football during the 2016 season and sometimes would back up Mike Weber at running back. Parris Campbell and K.J. Hill formed the best slot receiver combo the last two years.

Each of the last two seasons J.K. Dobbins and Weber gained over 2,000 yards rushing between them so there weren’t many reps for McCall to get at running back.

Crowley was the Gatorade Player of the year in the state of Florida in 2018. He impressed the coaching staff during the spring and apparently is continuing to improve.

The Buckeyes also have another impressive freshman running back in Steele Chambers who could get some carries this season. When Teague returns the Buckeyes will have a deep and talented running back unit.

Next. 3 Buckeyes to watch this Saturday. dark

Expect these players to carry the ball often, especially early in the season while QB Justin Fields gets acclimated to the offense and in sync with his receivers.
