Will Josh Proctor, a highly rated safety in the 2018 Ohio State recruiting class, start in 2019 or again be a backup and special teams player?

Josh Proctor was a highly ranked safety in last year’s Ohio State recruiting class and played as a true freshman.  He was used mostly as a special teams player, which is often the case for a young guy, and made a tackle in the close 36-31 victory over the Nebraska Cornhuskers.

As of now, that is his only tackle of his career but many more are coming.  According to the Ohio State Depth Chart on ourlads.com, it shows Josh Proctor as the starter at the free safety position.

If that is true, look for him to start out a bit slow to get used to the new defense and coach Ryan Day. But when all is said and done, in my opinion, Proctor is going to finish strong this season.

Why am I so high on this young player?

Proctor was part of the ESPN 300 and a four-star prospect as a senior.  He also had a one hundred yard interception return in the season opener.

He led Owasso to a 12-1 record and to the 6A-1 State Championship for the first time since 1974 according to Ohio State’s official website.

He also played basketball. Remember, safety Malik Hooker was a star on the hardwood in high school and he turned out to be pretty good didn’t he.

Proctor is only a sophomore so he has a lot of time left at Ohio State, unless of course he becomes a star during the next two seasons and wants to bolt for the NFL. But as it looks right now, he is going to stay with the Buckeyes until his senior season ends.

Look for Proctor to have quite a few tackles this season, passes defended and get at least two interceptions he will return for about 10-20 yards each time. He will also play big roles on special teams, possibly as a protector or as a returner.
