Ohio State Football: Jim Harbaugh fires shots, Ryan Day gets last laugh
Let the fun begin. Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh took a shot at Urban Meyer but new Ohio State head coach Ryan Day gets the last laugh.
Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh took a public shot at former Ohio State coach Urban Meyer on a podcast with the Athletic’s Tim Kawakami. Perfect way to kick off Big Ten media days.
In the interview, Harbaugh said “Urban Meyer has a winning record, really phenomenal record everywhere he’s been. Also, controversy follows everywhere he’s been.”
As expected, the comment is causing an early sparring session between the two fan bases that should last throughout the season. Given Harbaugh’s 0-4 record against Meyer and not having any Big Ten Championships or national titles, it is easy to understand why Buckeye Nation is piling on him.
Despite being off a little, I actually like his comments. For the record, Meyer did not leave Bowling Green or Utah in controversy.
His jab reflects a little desperation but that’s okay. I think Harbaugh knows that he needs to start matching his potential if he intends to make The Game and college football’s best rivalry competitive again.
This season might be his best chance yet to stop the bleeding against Ohio State.

Harbaugh hired offensive coordinator Josh Gattis, a coach who actually runs an offensive scheme built for today’s game. He also gets the Buckeyes at home the week after they play the Nittany Lions, a game that is always one of the more physical ones each season.
If Harbaugh does not win The Game this year, he may never beat Ohio State. Day’s success in recruiting shows he has the chops to keep the momentum rolling.
Appropriately, Day got the last laugh though telling reporters after being asked whether he would change Ohio State’s and Meyer’s approach to Michigan.
“No, that worked – 7-0,” Day said. “(That) worked just fine.”
Shots have been fired. Let the season begin.
