Here are stats the receivers in the two deep recorded last season and the areas they improved in.

  • Parris Campbell:  90 receptions for 1,063 yards, 12 touchdowns and 11.8 yards per catch (Receptions, yards and touchdowns)
  • K.J. Hill:  70 receptions for 885 yards, 6 touchdowns and 12.6 ypc (Every stat)
  • Johnnie Dixon:  42 receptions for 669 yards, 8 touchdowns and 15.9 ypc (Receptions and yards)
  • Terry McLaurin:  35 receptions for 701 yards, 11 touchdowns and 20.0 ypc (Every stat)
  • Austin Mack:  26 receptions for 331 yards, 1 touchdown and 12.7 ypc (Receptions)
  • Binjimen Victor:  21 receptions for 354 yards, 4 touchdowns and 16.9 ypc (Receiving yards and ypc)

You know the performances by the Ohio State receivers impressed the outstanding recruits mentioned earlier. The fact that Campbell was drafted in the second round, McLaurin in the third and Dixon was picked up as an undrafted free agent didn’t hurt matters either.

And the way Chris Olave performed at the end of the season had to impress them as well. Filling in for Mack, he had 12 receptions for 197 yards, 3 touchdowns and averaged 16.4 yards per catch. He played more like a junior than a true freshman in less than a full season under coach Hartline’s tutelage.

Every recruit wants to see the field as soon as possible. Now they know they can make an impact as a true freshman at Ohio State if they pay close attention to what coach Hartline teaches them.

It has been a remarkable first year for the Ohio State receivers coach. Now he can take a breather, but not for long.

Fall camp is just around the corner and Brian Hartline will begin year two soon. I can’t wait to see what kind of magic he will work with this year’s group of talented receivers. They should be a fun bunch to watch.
