Right when Jim Harbaugh may have thought he could relax a little after Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer retired, Ryan Day hit the recruiting trail hard.

When Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer stepped down I expect Jim Harbaugh breathed a sigh of relief. Now he would have a chance at winning ‘The Game’ and probably beat Ryan Day on the recruiting trail with Urban out of the picture.

Not so fast Jim, Ryan is smoking you so far.

Ohio State has the No. 4 ranked 2020 recruiting class and Michigan is only two spots behind them. But when you crunch the numbers you realize there is more disparity.

Coach Harbaugh has 9 four-star recruits and 11 rated as three-stars. Coach Day only has 8 and 5 respectively but has a couple of five-star recruits and his class has a higher ranking with five fewer players in it.

As a result Ohio State’s player average is 92.62 in the 247 Sports Composite while Michigan’s is lagging behind at 89.55.

The more things change the more they stay the same, don’t they? Urban Meyer usually beat Jim Harbaugh on the recruiting trail and his successor is doing so as well.

What would happen if Ryan Day coached his team to victory in ‘The Game’ to keep Ohio State’s winning streak alive? The Michigan head coach may go ballistic.

More from Ohio State Football

Anyway, coach Day has landed a few outstanding recruits lately and here are the players in the 2020 class at the moment.

  • Jullan Fleming: No. 1 wide receiver
  • Parris Johnson Jr.: No. 1 OT
  • Clark Phillips III: No. 4 cornerback
  • Luke Wypler: No. 1 center
  • Gee Scott Jr.: No. 13 wide receiver
  • Jack Miller: No. 2 pro style quarterback
  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba: No. 18 wide receiver
  • Darrion Henry: No. 11 defensive tackle
  • Cody Simon: No. 10 outside linebacker
  • Lejond Cavazos: No. 20 safety
  • Grant Toutant: No. 32 offensive tackle
  • Ty Hamilton: No. 39 strongside defensive end
  • Jakob James: No. 70 offensive tackle
  • Trey Leroux: No. 94 offensive tackle
  • Jake Selbert: No. 2 kicker

I think Urban Meyer taught a few things to Ryan Day about recruiting, don’t you? I can only imagine what Jim Harbaugh thinks about Ohio State’s recruiting class at the moment.

Next. Unlike in 2014, Larry Johnson will roll in tackles. dark

Just think if he loses the recruiting battle this year and his Wolverines fall to the Buckeyes once again in Novemeber to the first year head coach. That may be more than Jim could bear.
