Ohio State Football: CB Clark Phillips a great piece for the 2020 class
When Clark Phillips committed to play his college football for Ohio State it was an important piece for Ryan Day’s 2020 recruiting class.
The 2020 Ohio State recruiting class has been filling up with offensive players but lagging behind on the other side of the ball. With Clark Phillips committing to play for the Buckeyes yesterday it gives Ryan Day three defensive players in the class.
And two are defensive backs which will be important to fill voids going forward.
Phillips is a four-star recruit ranked the 4th best corner, the No. 46 overall player in the country and listed at 5 ft. 10.5 inches and 178 pounds.
The other defensive back is Lejond Cavazos who is 6ft.1, 190 pounds and ranked as the No. 20 safety in the country.
Both of these players are important gets for coach Day as defensive backs will be exiting the Ohio State football program soon. Phillips especially so because there were no corners in the small 2019 recruiting class.
Damon Arnett will graduate next year and there is a real possibility Jeffrey Okudah might leave after his third season.

And don’t forget Shaun Wade was the 2nd ranked corner in the 2017 recruiting class right behind Okudah. He has performed well in multiple positions his first two years, and if he has a big season could be moving on as well.
At the safety position Jordan Fuller will graduate and with the way Brendon White came on strong at the end of last season he may not come back for a fourth year.
With a possibility of having a mass exodus of defensive backs next year, having Phillips and Cavazos already in the fold has to make coach Day breathe a little easier.
The third defensive player in the class is strong side defensive end Ty Hamilton. His older brother Davon has been a fine defensive tackle for the Buckeyes and will be a senior.
You know defensive line coach Larry Johnson loves to have another Hamilton on board.
Well, things are now picking up on the defensive side of the ball for the 2020 Ohio State recruiting class which is shaping up to be a very good one. It’s now ranked No. 5 in the country and is tops in the Big Ten.
