Ohio State Football: Teams the Buckeyes should watch out for in 2019.
By Ian O’Brien
3) Maryland
People are predicting Maryland under new head coach Mike Locksley to finish with another 5-7 record. However, after last year’s game don’t be surprised if the Terrapins decide to make it close again.
Maryland is known for their close games, and with Josh Jackson as the possible starter it’s a whole new ball game. In his career with the Virginia Tech Hokies, Jackson had 3,566 yards passing and 25 touchdowns.
He struggled with an injury in 2018 sustained during the Old Dominion game which Tech lost in an upset 49-35. Jackson would only throw five touchdowns during the season.
There are other quarterbacks in the mix as well such as junior Tyrrell Pigrome and redshirt freshman Tyler DeSue. Most of the defense is back and it’s seven seniors will be looking to stop the Buckeyes’ powerful offense.
Last season Maryland was 78th in team defense, and as a result struggled to stop the Ohio State offense. The Terrapins will have another high scoring offense but may fail on defense once again.
When these two play each other week 9 the game will be close, but the Buckeyes will pull away in the end thanks to Justin Fields.
He will throw a game winning touchdown pass to either KJ Hill or Austin Mack. My prediction at least.
