Ohio State Football: Make ‘The Shoe’ a bucket list destination

Ohio Stadium needs to be on your destination list at some point. There is nothing like watching the Ohio State Buckeyes play there in the fall.

In Columbus along the banks of the Olentangy River and on the campus of The Ohio State University, sits Ohio Stadium. Affectionately known as ‘The Shoe’ to Buckeye fans.

If you are looking to visit a stadium you have never been to or make a return visit to a special one, do yourself a favor and make that destination stop in Ohio’s capital.  This iconic venue that houses the mighty Ohio State Buckeyes can be seen packed full on a Saturday in the fall rain or shine.

The first game played at Ohio Stadium was against Ohio Wesleyan in October of 1922.  It has been the site for huge concerts with the likes of; Pink Floyd, Elton John, The Rolling Stones, Metallica, Kenny Chesney and others.

As it stands at the moment you can sit 102,082 in The Shoe.  According to wikipedia.org it is the 3rd largest North American stadium by capacity.  It’s record attendance to date was during a 2 OT win in 2016 against TTUN with 110,045 on-hand.

Ohio Stadium gets its nickname because of the fact it is in the shape of a horseshoe which can be seen most prevalent from aerial views.  It was more noticeable before they closed the open end adding more seats.

You can hear the chant of O-H-I-O being proudly boomed through the parking lots, stadium walkways and inside the bowl hours before kickoff.  Whether you love, hate or are indifferent to the Buckeyes, this isn’t just a visit to a college football game.

This is a destination that needs to be on your list because it will be an experience you never will forget!

There is just something about a beautiful fall day watching a great football team and having 102,000+ fans in one place all cheering for the same goal.  The game day atmosphere at The Shoe is second to none.
