Buckeyes Football: 2020 Five-Star Commits to Ohio State
With a major 2020 five-star recruit committing to Ohio State, Ryan Day has proven his skill as a recruiter and helps to solidify an impressive WR group.
The future continues to look bright for the Scarlet and Grey, as Ohio State picked up five-star 2020 recruit Julian Fleming this morning. With a solid WR unit already in place, this commitment shows Ryan Day has the same pull as Urban Meyer had in Columbus.
With Fleming (who ranks as the 6th best player and first among WRs in the 2020 class) committing to Ohio State, the Buckeyes’ class now ranks 9th nationally, according to 247 Sports.
However, improving the 2020 class is not the only thing that Julian brings to the table. For one, this commitment shows that Ryan Day has not lost any of the pull that Urban Meyer had at Ohio State.

Many people expected that the Buckeyes would still be a team to be reckoned with, but also thought they would take a big step back, especially in recruiting. Meyer was of course a legendary coach, and his biggest strength was arguably on the recruiting trail.
With Meyer’s legacy for recruiting still in tact through Day, Fleming will have a chance to work with Brian Hartline who is skyrocketing as a WR coach and recruiter for the Buckeyes.
Julian will not only have a phenomenal coach to work with but also an excellent group of receivers, which will likely include Chris Olave, Jaelen Gill and others who will hope to gain valuable experience in 2019.
While the Buckeyes are losing four senior receivers after this season (KJ Hill, Austin Mack, Binjimen Victor and CJ Saunders), Fleming will also have the chance to make an immediate impact as the receivers that will be left have yet to make a major impact.
Because of this lack of experience, the WR position at Ohio State in 2020 will likely have plenty of room for fresh faces to make their mark. At this moment, Gill, Olave, Garrett Wilson and Fleming will be the favorites to make the most impact in 2020.
With another five-star committed, the Buckeyes have shown that their Big Ten success should continue for years to come.
