Ohio State Football: Top 10 Buckeye running backs of all time
By Ian O’Brien
1) Archie Griffin
Without a doubt, the best running back to come out of Ohio State was this man right here. The biggest reason he is number one is because Archie Griffin is the only player in college football history to win Heisman Trophies in back to back years (1974-1975).

Griffin’s career stats as a Buckeye consists of 5,589 rushing yards on 924 attempts and 26 touchdowns. No Ohio State player since Archie, not even Zeke, had over 5,000 rushing yards in their career.
Some may argue about the competition he faced, but I just think Archie was just that good of a running back and knew when to hit that open spot. Not only that, I think the competition was much more aggressive than now as there are different rules into place.
Griffin would be drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals as the 24th pick in the first round of the NFL draft in 1976. Archie would play in the league for seven seasons and rushed for 2,808 yards and seven touchdowns to cap off and outstanding career carrying the football.
Those are my top 10 Ohio State running backs and I know some would not agree with the order. However, I hope you guys enjoyed a look back at these outstanding players.
