For decades Ohio State vs. Michigan has been the one game college football fans have had to tune in to watch. Is it possible it’s no longer ‘The Game’?

Dictonary.com defines RIVAL as; a person or thing that is in a position to dispute another’s preeminence or superiority. With that being said, is Ohio State vs. Michigan football still a rivalry?

I could argue we are pretty close to saying it’s not anymore.  The Buckeyes have won 7 straight editions of ‘THE Game’ and 16 of the last 18.  That doesn’t sound like the Michigan fans are in a position to have expectations their team will defeat Ohio State any time soon.

In 2001 Jim Tressel showed up and the domination of Michigan began.  Urban Meyer took it to another level.

This past year there was an expectation it was finally going to happen, with Urban’s health scares and the Zach Smith issues. Then 62-39 happened.

Nope, not yet. Try again.

The 2019 game could be 8 in a row for the Buckeyes.  Is this the year Michigan and Jim Harbaugh has the best chance to finally beat Ohio State?  If they don’t get it done this year, it might be longer than we even expected for it to happen again.

The Buckeyes have new coaches, a new quarterback and the game is in Ann Arbor. With all of that, it lines up for the Wolverines to have a good shot. If they don’t, I don’t know that you can call them a rival any longer.

Things could change like they did at the beginning of the 21st century. The Wolverines dominated the Buckeyes during the John Cooper era prior to that.

But that was before a former Buckeye assistant took over as head coach who fully understood the rivalry. Since then it’s all been downhill for the Wolverines. And they still have their favorite son Jim Harbaugh at the helm.

See, nothing has changed.

dark. Next. 4 teams I would like Buckeyes to face in the CFP

Another win for Ohio State over Michigan this year could turn this “rivalry” from being named “THE Game,” to just being a game.
