Ohio State Football: QB recruits shouldn’t taunt the Buckeyes
What’s the deal with quarterback recruits chirping about the Ohio State Buckeyes? Maybe they should graduate from high school before doing so.
Two quarterback recruits have made comments about Ohio State recently. I find it extremely interesting they would do so since they each have a long way to go before taking their first snap in college.
Deuce Hogan is a member of Iowa’s 2020 recruiting class and J.J. McCarthy is committed to the 2021 Michigan class. Both had interesting things to say about the Buckeyes.
First a look at the Iowa commit. Things Hogan said as reported by All Hawkeyes.com, definitely leads you to believe the young QB doesn’t lack confidence. But why did he have to say this?
"“It’s going to be a mind game. I’m going to make the defensive coordinator at Ohio State pull his hair out. I’m going to enjoy it, that’s what I’m going to do”."
What’s interesting about this situation is Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz is as low-key as any college football coach in America so I doubt he liked Hogan’s comments.
Possibly Hogan is feeling cocky because the last time the Hawkeyes faced the Buckeyes they eliminated their chances of making the College Football Playoff. But maybe he should have factored in these things before running his mouth.
Iowa has won two Big Ten Championships since coach Ferentz took over as head coach and none since 2004. Ohio State has won nine along with two national titles
Now for the Michigan commit. Here is what McCarthy had to say about Ohio State per Daily Caller.com.
"“I used to love them. Now I want to kill them,” McCarthy told The Athletic when discussing going to Michigan after growing up an OSU fan, according to Saturday Tradition. The beef apparently started because McCarthy felt “lied” to about the recruiting process."

McCarthy should consider these facts before making any more statements about the Buckeyes.
Since Jim Tressel took over as head coach in 2001 Ohio State has defeated Michigan 16 of 18 times. The 37-7 victory in 2010 was vacated so that may give the QB some comfort.
The Buckeyes have been victorious the last seven times the two teams have met. And of course that means Jim Harbaugh has never won “The Game” as the Wolverine head coach.
It’s hard for me to imagine why these young quarterbacks are so quick to run off at the mouth. Don’t they realize they haven’t even finished their high school careers and will have to battle for a starting job when they enter college to even get a chance to play against Ohio State?
And as a guy who has played quarterback, the last thing I would have wanted to do was to give defensive linemen extra motivation to put me on my back. And Larry Johnson’s crew does that to quarterbacks regularly without it.
If one of these two guys do face the Buckeyes at some point, don’t you think the things they said will be bulletin board material? They may wish then they would have kept their thoughts to themselves.
