Justin Fields is now officially the starting quarterback for the Ohio State Buckeyes and people are hyped, but are also wondering how his 2019 campaign will go.

It was announced on January 4th 2019 that Georgia Freshman quarterback Justin Fields would transfer to the Ohio State University after seeing limited playing time last season as a Bulldog.

As a freshman Fields was 27 of 39, passed for 328 yards and threw for four touchdowns. He also rushed for 266 yards on 42 attempts and scored four touchdowns on the ground.

However, people are asking how will Fields perform his first season as Ohio State’s quarterback? He is definitely going to be the starter with Tate Martell and Matthew Baldwin transferring from the program.

During the Scarlet vs Gray scrimmage, Fields struggled a bit early on going 4 of 13 through the air but would later catch fire with a 98 yard touchdown pass to Binjimen Victor.  He also had 38 yards on the ground and scored a touchdown in the second quarter.

I think Fields will have a pretty good season both through the air and on the ground.  Last year, Ohio State’s talented quarterback Dwayne Haskins was for the most part a pocket passer. People would relate him to someone like Ben Roethlisberger.

I see Justin Fields as a Cam Newton type quarterback especially after watching his highlights on YouTube from his high school days at Harrison. Fields has a cannon for an arm and but can also be a threat carrying the football just like Newton.

In my opinion, Fields will put up nice passing numbers during the season and will definitely rush for more than 266 yards. Look for him to rush for 700 yards or more.

Fields will have help too with running back JK Dobbins, receivers Austin Mack, Victor, KJ Hill, Chris Olave and other talented players on offense. And of course he will have Ryan Day to guide him and we know how he can best utilize a quarterback’s talent.

Some expect Ohio State will be a rebuilding team with a young quarterback, but look for the Buckeyes with coach Day and Fields to be a top 10 team throughout the season. And possibly make the College Football Playoff again, and even win the National Championship.

We will see what happens during the 2019 season.
