And no Big Ten team, especially one that struggled against Navy, lost to a Virginia Tech, a team that was barely at a .500 record and had a third team QB running the show had a chance. Boy did the Buckeyes prove everyone wrong that night.
Ohio State was leading 34-28 in the fourth quarter but needed some room for comfort. That’s when Ezekiel Elliott took off on an 85 yard touchdown run and Cardale Jones passed to Michael Thomas for the two point conversion.
Alabama led by Blake Sims and Amari Cooper would score and Ohio State would then punt after giving Alabama the chance to tie it.  Tyvis Powell picked off a Sims’ pass and the Buckeyes shocked the college football world to move on to, and eventually win, the first ever College Football Playoff Championship Game.
