Why Ryan Day will succeed his first year as Ohio State’s head coach
By Ian O’Brien
The offensive side of the ball is led by coach Day and offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson. And he added former Oklahoma State offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich who will become passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach.
Justin Fields will be taking over at quarterback, and even though he saw limited action last season at Georgia, he still threw four touchdowns and was never picked off. And he had a fine Spring Game with his highlight being a 98 yard touchdown pass to Binjimen Victor.
Fields will also have backfield help in J.K. Dobbins. The last two seasons Dobbins has rushed for 2,456 yards and 17 touchdowns, The running back is still not done as he is looking to eat up more yardage in 2019.
Dobbins is no Ezekiel Elliott, but he still is a really big aspect to this Ohio State football team and they will need him healthy this season.
Don’t forget about wide receivers K.J. Hill, Austin Mack, Binjimen Victor and Chris Olave either. Mack was looking solid last season until an injury sidelined him. Chris Olave had 197 receiving yards and three touchdown filling in when Mack went down.
Victor had four touchdown receptions last season and has a total of 12 his first three years and 767 receiving yards. An article by Stephen Means from Cleveland.com says Victor and Mack will not rotate, but instead start together which should give the Buckeyes a potent duo on the edge.
This offense can possibly be even better than last year’s but it won’t be an easy task. And as all Buckeye fans saw last year, especially with Purdue, every game can’t be a blow off. You don’t know when you will beat a team by 40 and then lose to an unranked team by 20.
Ryan Day has a nice group of players on offense who can move the chains and put up points. But they must be ready to play every week.
The Buckeye head coach should not be worried one bit about job security and I do think he will keep the program in shape and the team will be on track throughout fall camp and next season. Ryan Day is not John Cooper who struggled a bunch.

Coach Day proved he is qualified to be the head coach after beating TCU, Oregon State and Rutgers during his internship last season.
The Ohio State Football season kicks off August 31st against Lane Kiffin and the Florida Atlantic Owls at the HorseShoe. The Buckeyes are expecting big things this year and aren’t just shooting to make the playoff but want to hold up the trophy at the end.
Teams like Michigan State, Northwestern Wisconsin, Penn State and “That Team Up North” will challenge Ohio State during the Big Ten season. If the Buckeyes can make it through that gauntlet it could be a special season like the one five years ago.
Good luck to head coach Ryan Day, the rest of the coaches and the whole Ohio State Football team as they will start fall camp soon preparing for the 2019 season. Let’s go kick some butt guys!! Go Bucks!!
