Ohio State Basketball: Buckeyes are trending upwards
Things keep looking up for Chris Holtmann and the Ohio State basketball program with incoming players who will make an impact next season and in the future.
The Ohio State basketball team is shaping up to be a Big Ten powerhouse once again, and with the news of John Beilein’s departure, the outlook has gotten even better.
The program got a big boost last week with the commitment of 6-8 wing Kalen Etzler, the first commit of the Buckeye’s 2021 recruiting class.
Etzler is a beast on the court as he led his high school squad to a one-loss season and a state title in his Sophomore year. It runs in the family too as his brother will be starting his Freshman season with Miami (OH) next season.
Etzler is a top 50 commit for the 2021 season and should help the Buckeyes a lot with their size.
Ohio State also got a huge commitment when University of California forward Justice Sueing transferred to the Buckeyes.
Sueing will have to sit out a season before he gets on the court, but he should have a fantastic impact when he does. He averaged team highs for the Golden Bears in points, rebounds and steals.

For next season, we obviously know of the highly touted recruits Alonzo Gaffney, DJ Carton and EJ Liddell. Those three players pushed this year’s recruiting class to the 12th best in the nation and 1st in the Big Ten according to 247sports.
The Buckeyes also recently got a verbal commit from seven-foot center, Ibrahima Diallo. He is a player that should greatly impact Ohio State’s inside presence, especially if Kaleb Wesson is really serious about forgoing the rest of his college career.
In total, that foursome for next season includes a trio of four stars and a three star. Not too shabby for a program that failed to make the NIT tournament two years ago.
Add all of this to the fact that John Beilein is leaving Michigan for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Buckeye basketball fans have a lot to be excited about for the next few years.
