Ohio State Recruiting: Kalen Etzler a great piece for the 2021 class
The hits just keep on coming for Ohio State. With Kalen Etzler committing, Chris Holtmann has a terrific start to his 2021 recruiting class.
Last Thursday Ohio State head coach Chris Holtmann had to have liked the way things are shaping up for his basketball program as he has plenty of talent and depth heading into the 2019-20 season. Now he has to be ecstatic with the players he has added for the future.
Friday, California transfer Justice Sueing announced he would to join the team and yesterday high school sophomore Kalen Etzler committed to the play for the Buckeyes.
Both players were terrific gets for coach Holtmann. Let’s take a look at the most recent commit.
Etzler is the first player committed to the 2021 Ohio State recruiting class. He is listed at 6 ft. 8, 195 pounds and is ranked the 17th best power forward and the No. 62 overall player in the 247Sports Composite.
He is an in-state recruit who plays for Crestwood High School in Convoy, Ohio. Collin Hass-Hill of Eleven Warriors reported Etzler averaged 12.3 points and 6.7 rebounds last season.
He also has a strong connection to Ohio State. His uncle Doug played guard for the Buckeyes from 1991-95 and averaged 16.3 points per game his senior season.

Kyle Young will be moving on after the 20-21 season so having a power forward to replace him is certainly a great start to the ‘21 recruiting class.
With Etzler committing it gives coach Holtmann two great pieces for his program in just a couple of days. Although Sueing will have to sit out for a year, to have another veteran presence to help out the young guys in practices will certainly be a plus next season.
And Sueing wasn’t just a role player for Cal but the leading scorer and rebounder as a sophomore. After Andre Wesson graduates next year coach Holtmann will have a wing ready to fill his spot.
Just think about what coach Holtmann has accomplished since last season ended.
Not satisfied with just having three outstanding players in his 2019 recruiting class, he pulled in 7 foot center Ibrahima Diallo to back up Kaleb Wesson. Now the head coach has landed Sueing and Etzler for the future, which is certainly looking bright at the moment. The hits just keep on coming for Chris Holtmann and his Ohio State basketball program.
