When Chris Holtmann took over as head coach of the Ohio State basketball team he had a depleted roster but now it’s loaded.

Due to the number of players who left the Ohio State basketball program the last two years of Thad Matta’s tenure the team was short on scholarship players to say the least. With Justice Sueing transferring in coach Holtmann will finally have a loaded roster next season.

Sueing is a sophomore who played two years for California so he will have to sit for a season, but the Buckeyes will now have 13 players on scholarship. When Holtmann took over as head coach in June, 2017 there were only eight.

More from Ohio State Basketball

What makes the fact the roster is now full even more impressive is that six of the players he inherited have moved on as well as two graduate transfers he brought in.

Now a look at what Sueing brings to the table.

He is a 6 ft. 7 forward from Honolulu, Hawaii. As a freshman Sueing averaged 13.8 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. Last season he averaged 14.3 points and 6 rebounds leading Cal in both categories.

A player of Sueing’s caliber on the roster will benefit Ohio State even though he won’t be eligible to play until the 2020-21 season.

Having a proven college scorer for the regulars to go up against in practice will certainly help. Also, Andre Wesson is heading into his senior season so having another experienced wing with two years of eligibility remaining to replace him is a terrific situation.

dark. Next. Defensive tackle wants one more opportunity

With the core group of players Chris Holtmann has returning, and the No. 12 recruiting class in the country about to arrive on campus, things look promising for the Ohio State basketball team heading into next season. Adding Sueing to the group of outstanding young players on the squad makes the future look even brighter.
