Former Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins has signed his first NFL contract and the Washington Redskins got quite a bargain.

It was surprising when Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins slid to the 15th pick in the NFL Draft. The Washington Redskins’ GM Bruce Allen is glad he did because he got quite a bargain.

Haskins was one of three quarterbacks chosen in the first round of this year’s NFL draft along with Kyler Murray and Daniel Jones. It has been reported Haskins and Murray have already signed their rookie contracts and Jones probably will soon, at least the Giants hope he will.

Since first round contracts are slotted now we have a good idea how much money the three players will be making the next four years. Everybody should know by now I’m a stats nerd and a numbers cruncher so I thought it would be interesting to see if the Arizona Cardinals, New York Giants or the Washington Redskins got the most bang for their buck.

Any of the three first round picks could become stars or busts so I’m just going to look at salaries and their performances last season to evaluate their value. I’ll use the projected salaries per Forbes.com.

Kyler Murray, $35,200,000:  Last season Murray completed 260 passes for 4,361 yards and 42 touchdowns. He also rushed for 1,001 yards and 12 scores.

Arizona will pay $135,386 per completion, $6,565 per yard from scrimmage and $651,852  per touchdown for the top pick in the draft.

More from Ohio State Football

Daniel Jones, $25,700,000:  The Duke quarterback completed 237 passes last season for 2,674 and 22 touchdowns. He rushed for 313 yards and 3 touchdowns.

New York will pay $108,439 per completion, $8,604 per yard from scrimmage and $1,028,000 per touchdown for the 6th pick.

Dwayne Haskins, 14,500,000:  The Buckeye quarterback completed 373 passes for 4,831 yards and 50 touchdowns. He rushed for 108 yards and 4 scores.

Washington will pay $38,874 per completion, $2,996 per yard from scrimmage and $268,519 per touchdown for the third QB taken in the draft.

You never know if a quarterback chosen in the first round will have a successful NFL career or not. Each of these players have the potential to become stars, and if they do the team that drafted them won’t worry about the money spent to get them.

However, since all three may take time to develop I think Washington got the better value pick with Haskins’ initial contract. And the Buckeye quarterback could prove to be quite a bargain if he has success early in his career.
