Players have been walking out of the Ohio State quarterback room since Justin Fields enrolled but two players have entered the last couple of days.

Thursday there were two scholarship quarterbacks on the Ohio State roster. Now head coach Ryan Day has three and another player was added to the quarterback room as a preferred walk on.

First a look at the QB who left the University of Kentucky as a graduate transfer and decided to come home.

Gunnar Hoak is from Dublin and certainly has ties to Ohio State. His father Frank played for Earle Bruce, his uncle Fred Pagac played under Woody Hayes and coached for John Cooper. And his cousin Fred Pagac Jr. was a member of the 2002 National Championship team.

Hoak was a three-star recruit in Kentucky’s 2016 class. Last season he completed 13 of 26 passes for 167 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Having another backup quarterback with game experience certainly helps the depth at the quarterback position.

Three-star quarterback JP Andrade decided to make the long trip from California to walk on at Ohio State. Per Eleven Warriors, Andrade passed for 9,423 yards and 82 touchdowns in his high school career.

Andrade is an interesting prospect who will help the quarterback situation going forward. Jack Miller is a highly rated recruit in next year’s class, but since there was no quarterback in the 2019 class Andrade’s addition will at the very least add much-needed depth at the position.

It has been amazing how the Buckeyes’ quarterback position has changed in less than a year. Last year at this time Dwayne Haskins, Joe Burrow, Tate Martell and Matthew Baldwin were the scholarship players on the roster.

All of those quarterbacks have now moved on.

After five transfers, either leaving the football program or joining it, and Dwayne Haskins moving on to the NFL, Justin Fields, Chris Chugunov, Gunnar Hoak and JP Andrade will be the Ohio State quarterbacks next fall.

I hope Ryan Day will shut the door to the quarterback room and lock it because it’s becoming difficult for me to remember which quarterbacks are on the roster at any given time. Coach Day has to give this old guy a break.
