Ryan Day has done an excellent job building his 2020 recruiting class and his last commit was important for multiple reasons.

The last player to commit to the 2020 Ohio State recruiting class was a big get for head coach Ryan Day. And not just because he is a coveted four-star recruit even though that’s a good thing too.

Lejond Cavazos was a part of the class before Urban Meyer announced he would be retiring back in December but then he decommitted. Obviously he now feels comfortable with Ryan Day at the helm and other players considering playing for Ohio State will take notice.

Recruits get to know each other and talk and text so I’m sure Cavazos coming back into the fold will help coach Day in his pursuit of other top-flight players.

In addition to that Cavazos is the first defensive player in the 2020 class. There is an outstanding quarterback, players to block for him and guys to catch his passes but nobody besides Cavazos on the other side of the ball.

The Buckeyes also need defensive backs in the 2020 recruiting class because there were only two in the 2019 class. Cavazos is a good one to begin with as he is the No. 22 ranked safety and a Top 300 player.

Ohio State now has the No. 6 recruiting class in the 247Sports Composite with only eight commits and have the third best player average among top ten teams. Only Clemson and LSU have a better player average.

Here are the eight players in the 2020 class at the moment.

  • Parris Johnson Jr.:  6 ft. 7.5, 295 pound offensive tackle
  • Luke Wypler:  6 ft. 3.5, 285 pound center
  • Gee Scott Jr.:  6 ft. 3, 211 pound wide receiver
  • Jack Miller:  6 ft. 4, 210 pound quarterback
  • Jaxon Smith Njigba:  6 ft. 1, 188 pound wide receiver
  • Lejond Cavazos:  6 ft. 1, 190 pound safety
  • Jakob James:  6 ft. 5, 275 pound offensive tackle
  • Tre Leroux:  6 ft. 8, 330 pound offensive tackle

Ryan Day was already off to a great start in his first recruiting class and bringing Cavazos back into the fold was a terrific get. I have a feeling there will be more additions to the class coming soon as many recruits have been visiting recently and several watched the spring game and mingled with Buckeyes playing in the NFL.
