As is usually the case there is a quarterback battle on the Ohio State football team so expect to see the ball in the air often during the Spring Game.

With young quarterbacks and receivers battling for positions you can expect to see the ball in the air often when the Ohio State football team takes the field in the annual spring game. Coach Ryan Day will want to see how they will perform in front of 76,000 people in Ohio Stadium.

If you believe the reports there is a legitimate battle for the starting quarterback position between Justin Fields and Matthew Baldwin. Fields was the No. 1 ranked dual threat quarterback in the 2018 recruiting class and everybody has bragged about Baldwin’s big arm so it will be fun to see which player wins the shootout.

They will be throwing the ball to at least four young receivers who have shots at making the two deep. Let’s first look at the one who has waited the longest to get his turn.

Jaylen Harris now has a chance to move into the two deep rotation with Terry McLaurin and Johnnie Dixon moving on. It has been reported the 6 ft. 5, 215 pound wide receiver is having a fine spring and could be in the mix with Binjimen Victor as Austin Mack may be moved to the opposite side of the field.

Chris Olave came on strong at the end of his freshman season and big things are expected of the underrated three star recruit in the 2018 class.

Garrett Wilson is an early enrollee and has already lost his black stripe. There was a buzz surrounding the No. 2 wide receiver in the 2018 recruiting class in practices leading up to the All-American Bowl and then he was a star in the game.

Like Olave last year, Wilson could make an impact as a true freshman. I’m anxious to see how he will perform tomorrow in “The Shoe”.

Jaelen Gill was the No. 2 All purpose back in the 2018 recruiting class but there simply weren’t chances for playing time at H-back last year with Parris Campbell, K.J. Hill and C.J. Saunders in front of him on the depth chart. He has been compared to Campbell so hopefully we will get to see him with the ball in his hands in space to see if he can make defenders look foolish.

In addition to these four players I want to see how Elijah Gardner has progressed. He will be entering his third year and had a nice catch and run in last year’s spring game but I haven’t heard much about him lately.

I’m also wondering if tight end Jeremy Ruckert might be moved outside on occasion. He is 6 ft. 5, 240 pounds and has better receiving skills than most wideouts so he would be a nightmare to defend.

It should be fun watching coach Ryan Day’s newest aerial show in the Ohio State Spring Game. With the young talent the Buckeye head coach has to work with, along with the proven veterans on the roster, it may be a preview of coming attractions next fall.
