Ohio State football coach Ryan Day is loading up the offensive line and just received a commitment from another tackle in his 2020 class.
Since Ryan Day officially took over the Ohio State football team he has certainly put an emphasis on building depth on the offensive line. He starting out by landing guard Enokk Vimahi and tackle Dawand Jones at the end of the 2019 recruiting cycle.
Coach Day then brought in graduate transfer Jonah Jackson, who was voted Honorable Mention All-Big Ten last year by both the coaches and media while playing for Rutgers. Trey Leroux committed to play for the Buckeyes yesterday so the head coach now has four offensive linemen in his 2020 class.
Leroux becomes the third tackle in the class joining Parris Johnson, the top ranked player in the country at the position, and Jakob James. All three are in-state recruits.
Leroux is from Norwalk, Ohio and is listed at 6 ft. 8, 320 pounds. Like James he is rated a three-star prospect.
That shouldn’t be a concern because Ohio recruits tend to be underrated. You just have to look around the Big Ten to see the proof as most teams have excellent players who played their high school ball in the Buckeye State.
Better yet, look at how these former three-star Ohio recruits from the Columbus area were ranked coming out of high school. Jacoby Boren’s overall ranking was 578 and Pat Elflein’s was 998. They turned out to be pretty good linemen didn’t they?
In addition to the three tackles there is an outstanding center in the 2020 class. Luke Wypler is the top ranked player in the country at the position and the No. 51 player overall.

With tackle Ryan Jacoby and center Harry Miller also being members of the 2019 recruiting class, coach Day has five new offensive linemen on the roster. If the four in the 2020 class hold to their commitments, that will go a long way to building depth in the line going forward which is extremely important.
Jackson is the only player expected to make an impact immediately as it usually takes a young lineman a year or two in coach Mick’s strength and conditioning program to do so. Coach Day is simply taking a far-sighted view and building for the future.
He is known as a quarterback guru who knows how to build a dynamic offense, but fully understands what it takes to make it click. It’s the big guys up front keeping the quarterback upright who can also open holes for the running backs.
It’s obvious during his short time as the Ohio State head coach he has put an emphasis on bringing in plenty of ‘Slobs’ to make that happen.
