Ohio State Basketball: Coaches need to stay under control as well as players
After Ohio State defeated Iowa convincingly last night the Hawkeyes head coach Fran McCaffery had words with a ref which led to a suspension.
During the Ohio State win over Iowa last night both Chris Holtmann and Fran McCaffery received technical fouls. That’s nothing unusual when a head coach doesn’t like the way the game is being officiated.
But the Hawkeye head coach apparently crossed the line and had words with a ref after the game. As a result, it has been reported McCaffery has been suspended for two games by the university.
CBS Sports.com reported the things coach McCaffrey had to say to an official weren’t kind ones, according to Kyle Rowland of the Toledo Blade. I will let you check out what Mr. Rowland tweeted instead of reporting the exact remarks here.

Now I will give my thoughts which I hope coach McCaffrey will pay attention to.
Your Iowa team plays thug ball. There is nothing wrong with playing physical within the rules, and even skirting them as most teams do, but don’t get upset when you get caught carrying things a little too far.
Often your players threw an elbow or a shoulder into an Ohio State player last night when you had the ball but got away with it. And more than once a fouled was called on a Buckeye.
If the reports are true, you said you were cheated and that certainly wasn’t the case. Your team just got outplayed and you got out-coached.
Coach McCaffrey, you set a terrible example for your players with the way you acted last night. Will any of them have respect for referees going forward after you have proven you don’t?
If they don’t, you could have major problems down the road.
I thought it was ironic that your son picked up a technical just before you did. I’m not sure in the half-century of watching college basketball I have ever seen that. However, after your antics following the game I’m not surprised.
