Once again the Ohio State football team just reloads at the running back position. These backs have the potential to form an outstanding unit.

Running back Mike Weber chosed to leave the Ohio State football team to enter the NFL draft and Brian Snead transferred. Even losing those two players the Buckeye backfield will be loaded with talent.

Of course the featured back will be J.K. Dobbins once again. And you couldn’t find a better player to be the centerpiece of your running game.

He rushed for 1,403 yards his freshman year and backed it up with 1,053 yards last season while sharing carries with Weber. If Dobbins leads the team in rushing for a third consecutive year he will join four legendary backs who have done so.

Another 1,000 yard season and he will be one of two Ohio State running backs to have reached that mark three consecutive seasons. The other, Archie Griffin.

Demario McCall has been moved back to running back from the H-back position from everything have read or heard. That seems to be his more natural position for him and he will give the Buckeyes a change of pace in the backfield as being adept at both rushing and receiving.

For his career McCall has 431 yards rushing (6.1 per carry), 245 receiving yards (16.3 yards per catch) and 6 touchdowns.

More from Ohio State Football

Last year Master Teague didn’t see much playing time as a true freshman with Dobbins and Weber carrying the load. He excelled in last year’s spring game and reportedly runs a 4.3 in the 40. I’m anxious to see this guy play.

Marcus Crowley appeared to be a reach when Urban Meyer offered the 6-1, 200 pound running back who was only a 3 star recruit. But Urban has an eye for talent and Crowley was named the Gatorade Player of the year in Florida in 2018.

He has already enrolled and I can’t wait to see him in the spring game.

Steele Chambers is an intriguing recruit. Many thought the 6-1, 215 pound player may play on the defensive side of the ball. Fortunately, from what I have seen reported, he will play running back. Just watch his highlights and I think you will agree that was a good decision.

There is plenty of talent in the Ohio State backfield heading into the 2019 season. And it’s a good mix with proven veterans and young players trying to make their mark. This group should be fun to watch.
