As is always the case players transfer from the Ohio State football program after the season ends and it has been reported Keandre Jones is the latest to do so. But one talented player has transferred in and another may do so as well.

It was reported by 247Sports that linebacker Keandre Jones has left the Ohio State football team and will transfer to the University of Maryland. He is the third player to transfer since the football season has ended.

But an outstanding quarterback transferred in and another player may do so as well. Here is a look at the players coming and going and their impact.

Keandre Jones:  The No. 9 outside linebacker in the 2016 class could never crack the starting lineup. Malik Harrison returning to Ohio State for one more season probably sealed the deal as far as Jones transferring.

Impact:   Very little, the Buckeyes have talented linebackers like Baron Browning and Dallas Gant who can fill in the gap so depth isn’t an issue.

Brian Snead:  The marriage between Ohio State and the No. 3 running back in the 2018 class didn’t work out for some reason.

Impact: None

Justin Fields and Tate Martell:  You have to mention these two players together because their situations are intertwined. Martell was the presumed starting quarterback if Dwayne Haskins decided to turn pro but things changed after Fields transferred in.

With coach Day’s intent to stay with a downfield passing attack it was probably a good move on Martell’s part to move on to the University of Miami.

Impact: That remains to be seen. There is no guarantee Fields will receive a transfer waiver so he will be eligible next season and Matthew Baldwin has yet to take a snap in college.

We will just have to wait and see how the quarterback situation plays out next season, but I think it will be fine.

Jonah Jackson:  Jackson was an Honorable Mention Big Ten guard for Rutgers last season. As a graduate transfer, apparently he is considering playing for Ohio State after receiving an offer from coach Ryan Day.

Impact:  Even though the Buckeyes have talented young players in the interior of the offensive line, there isn’t a lot of experience so landing Jackson would be a plus.

There will be more transfers coming I’m sure. Players entering their third year will sometimes opt  to leave the program for what they think are greener pastures as they can sit out a season and still have two years of eligibility remaining. Stay tuned, things may get interesting in the coming months.
